Researchers have shown that cancer cells evolve and adapt to their ecosystem and thrive due to the active cooperation of the host cells and tumor cells in their microenvironment. As researchers leverage this insight to escalate the fight against cancer, some of us are looking at creating an ecosystem, whose members collaborate and work together to prevent and treat cancer.
The global burden of cancer has been growing relentlessly. As per the GLOBOCAN 2018 estimates of cancer incidence and mortality, there have been an estimated 18.1 million new cases of cancer and 9.6 million cancer deaths.
According to the IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer), only one in five low and middle income countries have the necessary data to drive policy and reduce the burden and suffering caused by cancer.
